Former Council Treasurer and Chaplain Jim Campbell flew west January 15, 2023
Posted on: 01/19/23

Capt James (Jim) Reynolds Campbell, Jr. (USAF retired) passed away peacefully on January 15, 2023. As a dedicated student of form and symmetry, he died just one hour into his 81st birthday. He was the beloved father to Tara Campbell Herrera (Juan) and Regan Campbell (Jon Cecchetti), grandfather to Shannon and Kathryn (Kate) Herrera, Jake Campbell, and Keeleigh Cecchetti, husband to the late Roberta (Robbie) Long Campbell, and long-time companion to Phyllis Bomhardt. He was proceeded in death by Robbie, as well as his parents, James R. Campbell and M. Helen Campbell. A proud, eldest brother, he is survived by his brother Dick Campbell and sisters Pat Heinrich, Jean Costa, Sue Ryan, and Barbara Harvey, and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim lived life as a renaissance man, balancing interests in art, jazz, trivia, fast cars, trains, Bridge, and Cribbage, with a deep patriotism and support of the U.S. military. Born and raised in Massachusetts, he also had a deep passion for New England sports, especially the Red Sox. Highly educated, he held different positions in his life from military officer, engineer, software developer, teacher, and nursing home administrator. He was a legendary joker with an irreverent sense of humor, who delighted in embarrassing his daughters in restaurants (or really anywhere else). In honor of his service in the U.S. Air Force and his dedicated commitment to the retired military, Jim will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery, details to follow. May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand. We will miss you, old man!
